Frequently Asked Questions

Tell Me More About SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel

How Does SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Work?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is an occlusive barrier against microorganisms.  It acts as the ultimate bandage.  Properly applied, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel provides a microorganism free, well-hydrated environment that promotes repair work by your own immune system.  In this efficient environment, the immune system can focus entirely on repair of the damage to the skin.  This promotes the fastest, strongest and least visible repair.

Will SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Make My Scar Disappear Completely?

Results vary from person to person, but in general the answer is no.  There is nothing available today to make a scar disappear completely.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel helps your body to do the most efficient, fastest and strongest possible repair providing the least possible visibility of the remaining scar.  Up to 92% of the cases studied in clinical trials of silicone topical gel showed a “measurable significant improvement” in the visibility of scar tissue.

What Are The Benefits Of Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

Benefits include softening and flattening the scar, normalizing its color and texture, maintaining moisture balance and elasticity of the scar and the adjacent skin, and relief of itching or other irritation in the scar area.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel can help to improve the efficiency of the work done by your immune system.  The improved efficiency can help to prevent the buildup of excessive scar tissue in new scars.

How Soon Can I Start Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel After Being Wounded?

As soon as the wound is sealed at the surface of the skin and it is comfortable for you to touch, you can begin using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  The earlier you start applications, the better your results will be.  Do not apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel on wounds that are open or burns that are weeping.

When Can I Expect To Start Seeing Results From Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

Most people will notice improvement in their scar within the first 3 to 6 weeks of applications, and expect to use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel for 3 to 5 months on scars aged 2 years or less.  Older scars may take up to a year or more of application to get the best results.  Your actual results may vary due to a variety of factors including the condition of your immune system, other illnesses or diseases you are fighting off, the age, depth, location of the scar, and your body’s genetic programming.  It would be impossible for anyone to give an exact time frame for your specific results.

Will The Results Of Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Be Permanent?

Yes, for that scar.  Once your immune system has completed the repair work, the results are usually permanent.  Further use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is not required to maintain your results.  Each new skin trauma must be treated as it occurs.

How Long Can I Continue To Use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

We recommend that you use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel until you do not see any further improvement.  For most people with scars that are less than 2 years in age, the normal duration of use should be in the 3 to 5 month range.  Often, the majority of a scar will improve nicely within 3 to 4 months and there may be some areas that will be a little more persistent requiring a longer duration of application.  Aggressive or older scars that are hypertrophic or Keloid may require an extended duration of application.

If I Keep On Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Beyond The Normal Term Of Use, Will It Hurt Me?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is as safe to use as lipsticks.  It will not harm you if used beyond an average normal duration of use.  Some people have found that they really enjoy the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel for protection of their skin from dehydration and to help minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  Continue daily use until you don’t see any more improvement in the appearance of your scar, or for as long as you like.

Can SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Be Used On Any Type Of Scar?

Yes, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel works well on any active scar.  Active scars will usually display one or more indicators of the repair activity.  They might be raised up or indented, feel hard or lumpy, be discolored red, pink, purple, or be darker than the normal surrounding tissue.  You may benefit from the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel if your scar is active, regardless of its age or the type of trauma to the skin including: burns, cuts, abrasions, acne scarring, stretch marks, surgical and laser procedures, insect bites, poison ivy or oak, rosacea, eczema and athlete’s foot. Use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel virtually any time there is noticeable damage to the skin.

Will SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Help With Keloid Scars?

Yes, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is very effective when used on existing Keloid scars.  We have seen softening, flattening, reduction of discoloration and irritation for patients using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel on existing Keloid scars that are even over 15 years in age.  Older scars usually require a longer duration of application.  When used on new scars, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel can provide your body with an ideal environment for the healing of scar tissue.  In that ideal working environment, your immune system may be able to avoid overfilling the scar with excessive scar tissue, which is the main cause of hypertrophic and Keloid scars.

What If My Scar Is Old?  Will SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Still Work For Me?

Age is only a consideration in the length of time you might expect to use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  The condition of the scar would tell whether or not SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel would work for you.  If there were an indication that the immune system is still trying to repair damage to the tissue, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel would work no matter how old the scar.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel will help if the area is still red, pink, purple, or darker than the surrounding skin; if the area is raised, hard or lumpy; if the scar is hypertrophic or has become Keloid.

Should I Ask My Doctor Before Using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

Only a doctor can give you medical advice.  Talk to your doctor about the benefits of using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel to see if it is right for your scar.  The use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel does not require a prescription.  It is not a medication.  We suggest the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel as the ultimate occlusive barrier over scar tissue.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is like a bandage in a tube.  It can safely be used on skin that is sealed at the surface.  If you have any reactions to silicone, or products that contain silicone such as gel cold capsules, deodorants, or lipsticks, you may have a reaction to SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  If you have concerns, ask your doctor.

Is SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Safe To Use On My Face Or Near My Eyes?

Yes, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is as safe to use as lipsticks.  We do not recommend putting it in the eyes or mouth or near mucus membranes.  If it is safe to apply cosmetics to the area in question, it should be safe to apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.

Is SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Safe To Use On Children?

Yes, SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is safe and works wonderfully for children.  It is a protective barrier and will provide its benefits even for active children at play.  Abrasion will reduce the integrity of the barrier eventually, but reapplication after 12 to 14 hours will renew the effectiveness of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  Children do not need to be kept from normal play to benefit from using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel, and you should not need to reapply it just because you had to wash the area several times during the day.  If you are concerned that your child is not getting the maximum protection benefit due to a high level of activity, you might add a mid day application to their schedule.  In most cases this is not necessary.

What Are The Ingredients In SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is a blend of high-grade Polymethylsiloxane and Silicone Dioxide.  There are no organic ingredients in SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  All the ingredients used to make SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel are listed on the FDA’s  “Generally Regarded As Safe” ingredient list.

Can I Use Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Or Other Topical Lotions with SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

Yes, although it is not necessary to use them to get good results from SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  However, if you prefer to use them, their properties may be enhanced after applying SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel over them.  For best results we recommend that you cleanse the area thoroughly, pat dry, apply the lotion, and then apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel over the top.  Remember that SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is a barrier that water molecules and larger particles cannot easily penetrate, so anything that is under the barrier will remain there and whatever is outside the barrier will remain there.

Will SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Stain My Clothing?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel can leave a stain on your clothing if it is applied in excessive amounts.  If you are applying SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel properly (in a very thin coat) it should feel dry to your touch in just a few seconds and should not stain your clothing.  If you should get a stain on your clothing, a little bit of vinegar or rubbing alcohol should remove it from the cloth.  Test a small area of the hem or other non-visible area of the garment to be sure that the fabric will not be damaged.

What Is The Shelf Life Of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel has a guaranteed shelf life of 10 years.  There are no perishable ingredients in SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.

Are There Any Known Side Effects From The Use Of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is such an effective barrier that it will only allow the passage of small particles thru its membrane.  The only known side effect of using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is that it will very effectively trap perspiration along with all the impurities that are transported out of the body in the perspiration.  For those that perspire heavily (most often athletes or children at play) the impurities that are trapped may cause irritation to the skin in the area of the scar.  If this happens discontinue use for a few days until the irritation subsides and then try applying SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel at a time of day after the period of physical activity.

What If I Have A Reaction To SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is made of biologically inert ingredients that are completely compatible with the body.  There should be no reaction to the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  If you successfully use products like lipsticks, underarm deodorants, or gel cold capsules, you should have no reaction to the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  If you have any reaction to the use of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel, discontinue use.

Application Questions

Why Do I Need To Thoroughly Wash The Area Before Application, And How Clean Is Clean?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is a barrier that microorganisms cannot pass through.  In order to get the very best benefit from use you should remove any microorganisms that have attached themselves to the surface of the skin before application.  The type of cleansing we are looking for is basic “out of the shower” type of clean.  For your nighttime application, you can use whatever method is comfortable just keeping in mind that what you are trying to achieve is to get the surface bacteria off the best you can.

How Often Should I Apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

For best results, we recommend that you apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel at least twice per day.  Once in the morning and once in the evening should be sufficient.  If you are using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel in an area where there is high abrasion (areas like the hands or feet or where clothing may rub) you may need to apply it more often.  Some people cannot schedule 2 applications per day or just prefer to apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel only once per day.  If you are only making 1 application per day, we suggest that application be made at bedtime.

What If I Can’t Apply SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Twice Per Day?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is an occlusive barrier to microorganisms and works best when it is used around the clock.  With normal abrasion and dead skin cells sloughing off, after about 12 to 14 hours, the integrity of the barrier will begin to breakdown.  For best results we suggest applying SCAR LESS™ twice per day to renew the integrity of the barrier and provide maximum benefit.  A regular schedule of application is best, but if you are only able to apply it once per day, at bedtime usually works best.  If the scar is in a high abrasion area, more frequent application may be necessary.

How Long Do I Have To Wait For SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel To Dry After Application?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel has been formulated to dry very quickly.  You can dress as normal or apply cosmetics immediately after application.  When applied in the correct proportion, it should feel dry and silky smooth to the touch within just a few seconds.  If you are getting too much on, it will remain sticky and tacky.  You can remove any excess with a tissue and then use a little less the next time you make an application.

When I use SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Can I Still Wear Cosmetics?

Yes.  Once you have cleansed the area, and applied your SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel, you can continue with your normal beauty regimen right over the top of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel without effecting its’ ability to perform.

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Availability

Can I Get SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel In My Local Pharmacy?

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is an “Over-The-Counter” product available in some pharmacies.  We are still in the process of getting SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel on the retail shelves.  Many referring physicians, who want their patients to quickly get SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel, have asked a local pharmacist to stock a supply.  However, unless a physician has specifically asked a pharmacy to stock SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel for his/her patients, you may not find SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel in your local pharmacy.  Ask your Pharmacist if they will be stocking SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel soon.

Why Didn’t My Doctor Know About SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?

It is very difficult for physicians to keep abreast of the large amount of new technology being introduced every day in the medical field such as SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  We estimate that currently about 1 to 1½% of the physicians in the US are aware of the benefits of using SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel.  Many new physicians inquire about the technology every day.

Scar Management Product Comparisons

How Does SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Compare To Other Scar Management Products?

There are similar products available, each with its own drawback.  Some require 15 minute or longer drying times; some tend to thicken in the tube with time and become difficult to spread; some can cause contact dermatitis when used longer than 14 days.  Some products that may include organic ingredients such as botanicals and animal extracts or proteins that can promote microorganism growth at the site of the scar and may not be PH balanced causing skin irritation.  Silicone sheets and strips are bulky, difficult to keep in place, do not breath effectively and feel hot and sticky when applied.  The sheets cannot be easily covered with makeup and may not provide a high enough quality seal at the edges to provide an effective barrier against microorganisms. They also require special cleaning to remove any surface impurities before each application.

SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel uses the best available formulation of high grade Silicones to provide the latest generation of technology in scar management.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is bio-inert, and it is easy to apply and to wear.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel has also been designed to dry to the touch within just seconds.  It is waterproof and can be covered with cosmetics.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is inexpensive to use.  It is available in a variety of tube sizes allowing you to purchase only as much as you need for your scar.

How Does SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel Compare To Vitamin E, Aloe Vera, or Cocoa Butter?

Vitamin E, Aloe Vera and Cocoa Butter have been used for many years to help promote healing.  While each will provide some limited healing benefits, these products have not been shown to be as effective as SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel for long-term scar management.  Since these are organic products, they are media for microorganism growth.  When microorganisms grow at the site of the scar, the immune system must divert attention to fighting off these unwelcome invaders.

What Is The Difference Between SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel And Silicone Sheeting?

Silicone Sheeting is an older technology than Silicone Gel.  While many people have successfully used silicone sheeting for scar management, it is difficult to use.  Difficulty of use is often the reason many people stop applying silicone sheeting before the maximum benefit can be realized from its use.

Some of the drawbacks to silicone sheeting are:

·       It often feels hot and sticky

·       It may migrate away from the scar while it is applied

·       It is easily seen making it difficult to conceal on exposed areas of the body when the user goes in public

·       It cannot be easily covered with cosmetics

·       It must be taped or glued on or can be purchased with adhesive on the sheet and often the adhesives can cause irritation and macerate the skin

·       It must be specially cleaned to reduce the growth of microorganisms on its surface

·       If the area that you are treating is on the face or any part of the body that is not flat, the silicone sheet is very uncomfortable to wear

·       It is very expensive and usually requires a prescription for purchase

While searching for answers to these complaints and others, researchers experimented with silicone ointments for scar management.  Silicone topical gels were shown to provide all the best benefits of silicone sheeting without the complaints regarding ease of use.

While early formulations of silicone gels showed great promise, there were still some problems with the first products.  Some required long drying times and tended to remain sticky, others tended to thicken in the tube after a fairly short shelf life, some had organic ingredients added to their formulas that can compromise the integrity of the barrier, and most early products were still quite expensive.

Development of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel was finished in 2000.  It is the result of over 15 years of research and development and is the finest Silicone Topical Gel formulation available.  SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel is safe, effective, inexpensive, very easy to use and comfortable to wear.  If it is applied properly you should get maximum benefit from it fast, and best of all, it is so easily covered with cosmetics, no one will even know you are wearing it.

Will My Insurance Cover The Cost Of SCAR LESS™ Generation III Topical Gel?
